Shell Thermal Conversion Technologies are developed by Shell and licensed, designed and engineered by ABB Lummus Global. Thanks to the vast operational experience and technology know-how from Shell combined with the excellent design capabilities and EPC feedback from ABB Lummus Global, Shell Thermal Conversion Technologies have become the process of choice for thermal conversion in the refining industry. The technologies contained in the thermal conversion portfolio are all well-proven and the processes are easy to operate. Overall, application of these technologies will result in a significant improvement in refinery economics, not only relative to the present situation, but also relative to competing processes. As a result of these advantages, Shell Thermal Conversion Technologies account for more than 70% of thermal conversion capacity installed world-wide over the last 15 years.
The basic technologies covered in the Shell Thermal Conversion portfolio are:
Shell Soaker Visbreaking technology, for residue upgrading | |
Shell Thermal Distillate Cracking technology, for heavy gasoil upgrading |
In addition, Shell has recently made Deep Thermal Conversion technology available for license. This promising new technology was commercialized at Shell's own refinery in Pernis, The Netherlands, and also adapted later at Shell's Godorf and Harburg refinery in Germany.
